2016 Baseball Youth Majors Recaps- Virginia Beach

June 19-24, 2016

The Baseball Youth Majors traveled to Virginia Beach June 19-24 and opened up play at the Princess Anne Athletic Complex. This event featured a very unique Opening Ceremony right on Virginia Beach!

10U Division

The 10U Division was one that stayed true the whole week in terms of the top teams making it all the way to the championship. When pool play ended both the Tidewater Titans and the Evoshield Canes were 5-0. Not too far behind was the Carolina Titans Blue and the other Carolina Titans who ended up finishing 4-1. During bracket play all of those teams made it to the semifinals of the bracket only to see the Carolina Titans Blue and the Evoshield Canes advance to championship. The Titans went to work putting a strong effort in all three phases of the game winning 12-1.

Championship Score:   Carolina Titans Blue 12   Evoshield Canes   1

11U Division

The Tidewater Drillers was the team of the week in this particular age division. They started the week winning two one run ball games which then propelled them to win the next six games by four runs or more. It was a perfect Majors slate for the Drillers going 8-0 defeating the Tidewater Titans in the final game 9-4. The NBA Nationals were also a part of this group and performed very well in pool play going 4-1 but were knocked out of the semifinals of the tournament losing to the Tidewater Titans.

Championship Score:   Tidewater Drillers   9   Tidewater Titans   4

12U Division

This particular age division was very balanced. A lot of close contested ball games all week. On top of the bracket was the Virginia Beach Knights who finished 4-1 in pool play to lock down the number one seed. When it was time for bracket play the RBI Outlaws (TN) came to compete. Despite going 2-3 in pool play they were able to rally in bracket play and make it to the finals. Not only did they make it to the finals they won a slugfest with the number two seed NWI Wardogs (IN) 17-16 to take back a championship to Tennessee.

Championship Score:   RBI Outlaws   17   NWI Wardogs   16

13U Division

The final age division of the tournament was the story of the underdog. After pool play there were three teams that looked to be favorites to win the title. The Michigan Bulldogs 5-0, Carolina Titans 4-1, and Northern Virginia Express 4-1. Though that was not the case, two teams on the other side of the bracket made it to the championship. It was the Virginia Beach Knights the number four seed matching up with the Virginia Crush who was the last seed since they went 0-5 in pool play. The impressive run by the Crush fell ever so short in the championship with the Knights taking it 14-8.

Championship Score:   Virginia Beach Knights   14   Virginia Crush   8
