Akadema Yard Dogs Win AAU Grand Nationals & Earn NYBC Bid

The Akadema Yard Dogs won the 12U AAU Grand Nationals on June 28 and earned the fourth spot in this year's National Youth Baseball Championship.

The Akadema Yard Dogs from Hamden, CT captured the 12U AAU Grand Nationals title on June 28 with an 11-1 win over the Jax Rockets. With the win, the Yard Dogs claimed the fourth automatic bid into the National Youth Baseball Championships on Aug. 7-11 at Baseball Heaven in Yaphank, NY.

The Yard Dogs finished second in their first round pool with wins over the GPA Hooks and Miami Bulldogs. They dropped a 7-3 contest against Team Florida. They again went 2-1 in their Diamond Pool to finish 2nd, but they earned the No. 4 seed and a first round bye for the single-elimination round.

In the quarterfinals, the Yard Dogs got a bit of revenge on Team Florida knocking them out with a narrow 4-3 win. The Connecticut boys then tore through the Central Florida Pride in the semis, 11-0, and the Rockets in the title game.

The 11U champions CBC Riverhawks Black earned a paid berth into the Junior NYBC event on Aug. 7-11. They defeated Team Florida in the championship game, 8-0.
