Banditos Elite Among Texas Powerhouses to Claim NYBC Bids

Corpus Christi, Texas wasn’t short on elite teams as The Baseball Legends Cecil Fielder Texas Winter National played host to the first qualifier for the 2015 National Youth Baseball Championships. The event on Dec. 5-6 played host to nearly 90 teams in age groups 6U-14U. The champions in ages 8U-14U earned automatic bids into next August’s NYBC at Baseball Heaven in New York.

The Banditos Elite, the only program to win multiple NYBC titles (2), punched their ticket to New York early with a 3-2 hard fought win over Broncos Baseball in extra innings. The two teams were the top seeds in the division, and the championship matchup was as good as advertised. After six innings the two teams were tied, and the Banditos ended it with a run in the bottom of the eighth. Last year’s Banditos team finished runner-up at the NYBC.

In 10U, the Sandcrabs made it look easy in pool play and got past two tough opponents in the semifinals and championship. The Sandcrabs finished their 9U season as the No. 1 ranked team in Baseball Youth’s Elite 25. They defeated the Bravos in the title game, 7-6.

Slam Baseball claimed the 11U championship and NYBC berth with a narrow 8-7 victory over Broncos Baseball. Slam ended 2014 as the No. 3 ranked 10U team according to Baseball Youth’s Elite 25. The Broncos were also a top 10 team.

Also winning Cecil Fielder Texas Winter National titles and NYBC berths were the CC Oilers (8U CP), SA Line Drive (8U KP), Broncos Baseball-Zambrano (9U), Austin Banditos (13U) and HP Baseball (14U). This is the first year the NYBC will feature an event for 8U, 9U, 13U and 14U. The event has featured 10U and 11U in the past, and the 11U championship was televised last year on CBS Sports Network along with a full slate of 12U games.

The Baseball Legends’ next NYBC qualifier will be the TBL California Presidents Day NIT in Fontana on Feb. 14-16. The next NYBC qualifier is the Baseball Youth Winter Championships, a week prior on Feb. 6-8. Go to the NYBC event page to learn more about the event and qualifiers for 2015.
