Baseball Youth got a taste of the Florida sun and some of the best travel teams in the state at the Baseball Youth Fall Championships on October 24-26 at Vero Beach’s Historic Dodgertown.

Over 50 teams competed over the weekend as things got kicked off on Friday night with an Opening Ceremonies and Skills Competition. The players and families enjoyed the Baseball Youth Fanfest before each team was paraded into the main Opening Ceremonies field. A DJ played music throughout the evening and during the Home Run Derby. Players also competed in the Fastest Feet and Around the Horn competitions.

Each team played at least one pool play game at Historic Dodgertown, and all bracket play was hosted at the Dodgers’ former Spring Training complex. Historic Dodgertown was the Dodgers’ Spring Training home from 1948-2008. The complex has 89 villas on site, a swimming pool, basketball and tennis courts and a dining room. Many teams enjoyed staying on site at Historic Dodgertown during the Fall Championships.

Players and parents were also able to enjoy a concert on site at Holman Stadium performed by country music star Jake Owen. Games wrapped up around 5 p.m. so everyone could attend the concert.

Florida Select won the 12U division with a dominating performance throughout the weekend. They won all four pool play games scoring 28 runs and allowing only four. In the semis, they took care of Treasure Coast Elite, 9-0, before winning the championship over South Florida Hitmen, 10-3.

Like Florida Select, Thunder Baseball went undefeated through the 11U competition. They beat South Florida Hitmen 8-4 in the semis and then took down the West Coast Warhawks in the title game, 7-3. In 10U, the West Boynton Cobras and ACES Elite squared off in the finals without a loss. The Cobras pulled away late to claim a 9-4 win.

The older age divisions, 13U and 14U, had the unique opportunity to play their championship game at Holman Stadium, built in 1953 for the Dodgers. The 13U and 14U IRONPIGS teams each won championships in their respective age divisions. The 13U team won 5-2 over Score International while the 14U team defeated Suncoast Mizuno, 4-1.

Baseball Youth will be back at Historic Dodgertown on January 1-4, 2015 for the Baseball Youth All-American Winter Games and later next summer on July 12-17 for the week-long Baseball Youth Majors.
