BREAKING NEWS: Qualifiers Chosen for National Youth Baseball Championships

Lexington, Ky. – Once again, the National Youth Baseball Championships will crown a true champion of champions.

Adhering to the “win and you’re in” concept, Dugout Media and New Media Sports LLC (NMS) announced today the 10 automatic qualifiers selected to send their representatives to New York for the 2014 National Youth Baseball Championships (NYBC) held Aug. 7-11, 2014 at Baseball Heaven.

The 10 qualifying events will produce a total of 14 automatic bids. Two at-large bids, based on Baseball Youth’s Elite 25 Rankings, will be awarded to make up the 16-team field.

“We feel we have identified the top tournaments from around the nation that will produce the most competitive field in NYBC history,” Scott Hacker, president of Dugout Media, said. “This event was founded to crown a champion of champions, and we wanted to stick with that model where teams have to earn their way in to the NYBC.”

Three major youth organizations will return to the NYBC in 2014 as the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU), National American Baseball Federation (NABF) and Super Series Baseball of America will all send their 12U champions to New York.

The AAU Grand Nationals will be held June 22-28 in Kissimmee, Fla., while the NABF World Series returns to Southaven, Miss., on July 3-6. The Super Series World Series will be in Round Rock, Texas, with the dates to be announced soon.

Aside from the three major youth organizations’ continued involvement, six open 12U events, produced by the top tournament organizers around the country, were selected to provide automatic qualifiers.

The Baseball Legends and their Best of the Best National Championships held July 13-19 in San Marcos, Texas, will have three automatic bids up for grabs. This event was identified as one of the top 12U events in the country bringing in top competition from several states. The Best of the Best champion and runner-up will receive automatic bids, as well as the third place team through a one-game playoff between the losing teams in the semifinals.

Got ’Em Baseball will host the Race for the NYBC Crown, a three-part series event, in Santa Clarita, Calif., where the top two teams receive automatic bids. The event begins Feb. 15-17 with 16 teams competing. The top 12 from the original 16 will move on to play in Week 2 on April 5-6, and then Championship Weekend is May 24-26 when the top eight teams play a double elimination tournament to determine the champion and runner-up.

Four events will receive one automatic bid into the NYBC. The Diamond Nation World Series in Flemington, N.J., will be held July 11-14. Grand Slam’s World Series of Baseball II takes place June 23-28 in Panama City Beach, Fla., and the Xtreme Diamond Sports Elite World Series is June 13-18 in San Diego, Calif. Details on the final event are currently being worked out, and that event will be named soon.

The remaining two spots will be filled from the top two teams in the NYBC First Round Play-In, which will be played on Aug. 1-3 before the NYBC main event. The NYBC First Round will provide a last chance opportunity for other ranked teams that did not earn automatic qualification. Other tournaments around the country are also going to be selected to carry free berths into the First Round. Those tournaments will be announced at a later date.

The two at-large berths will be announced on July 20 and awarded to the two highest teams on Baseball Youth’s Elite 25 Rankings who did not receive an automatic berth through a qualifier.

Teams interested in being a part of the NYBC will be required to register at BaseballYouth.com by May 1, 2014, and updated roster rules will also be put into effect. Teams wanting an at-large selection if they do not earn an automatic bid will have to be registered with the NYBC. More details on how to register and the roster rules will be announced soon.

“By registering with us on BaseballYouth.com, we will be able to keep up with every 12U team throughout the year and have a platform to showcase everyone’s progress,” Hacker said. “This will help us better evaluate our 12U rankings so we can make as informed a decision as possible when it comes down to those two at-large berths.”

Baseball Youth is known nationally as the pioneer of travel baseball media coverage with its bi-monthly publication, growing web platform (baseballyouth.com), and large social media presence boasting over 200,000 fans. The NYBC will be heavily marketed on all media platforms, as well as Baseball Youth’s mobile marketing tours that travel across the nation interacting with over 1.5 million individuals during the summer.

CBS Sports Network will nationally televise an NYBC record 12 games live during the main event, and MLB.com will simultaneously stream them on its website.

The Junior NYBC featuring 11U and 10U travel teams will also be contested at Baseball Heaven and the championship game will be on CBS Sports Network. Like the NYBC, top teams from around the country will receive invitations based on tournament results and Baseball Youth’s Elite 25 rankings to create a truly elite event. More information regarding the Junior NYBC will be announced soon.
