Cooperstown All-Star Village Expanding This Offseason
The Cooperstown All-Star Village has been undergoing a makeover this winter to expand the facility and give kids an even better experience at one of the nation’s top complexes.
Construction started around Dec. 1 on a new bunkhouse to increase the number of teams the All-Star Village can host each week. For 2013, the All-Star Village will be able to host up to 32 teams.
More teams means more fields, and the All-Star Village has started work on two new ballfields that will feature Astroturf and lights. There are also plans for a special addition to the championship field in the form of a 10-foot tall, 20-foot wide jumbotron.
When the new bunkhouse and fields are complete the expansion will not be stopping there. There are plans to make the complex even bigger in 2014 and 2015. One bunkhouse and two fields will be constructed each year so the All-Star Village can host 50 teams a week by 2015.
Other changes in the works are additional parking on the grounds to accommodate 600 vehicles and webcasts in real time so family members and friends who can’t make the trip can watch the games live.
This summer, Cooperstown All-Star Village will be the only complex in the area to host a 10U event. The 10U teams will square off June 8-14, and then only 12U teams will compete each week till the end of August.
The last week will be an invitation only event called the Cooperstown World Series where the top teams from the previous weeks will be invited back to the All-Star Village to crown a champion of champions.
Cooperstown All-Star Village Owner Martin Patton said registration is going very well. They are projecting to host over 300 teams, and there have already been 290 signups. Only a few spots remain, which means your team needs to act now to claim a spot this summer at the All-Star Village.
