East Wins Baseball Youth All-Star Challenge Over West
East took advantage of a six-run first inning and never looked back as they captured the Baseball Youth All-Star Challenge championship over West, 13-6, on July 30 at Baseball Heaven in Yaphank, New York. The game was televised live nationally on CBS Sports Network and MLB.com, and the event featured 50 of the best 12U players in the nation.
West had earned a title game spot on the first day of round robin action with two wins, including a victory over East, but it was East who jumped out to a big lead. Long Island native TJ Wachter and Florida’s Brady Browning both went deep for home runs in the six-run first inning. West chipped away at the lead and had it down to 8-6, but East piled on runs late to earn the championship.
Former MLB player and manager Dusty Baker joined the West region in the dugout, and former players Frank Catalanotto and Keith Osik guest coached for East. Four of the All-Star Challenge games were broadcasted on CBS Sports Network and MLB.com during the two days of play. South won the consolation game over Central.
