Ohio Prospects Earn Final Spot in National Youth Baseball Championships

In a classic David vs. Goliath scenario, the Ohio Prospects out of Painesville, OH won the Baseball Youth Elite Championships 12U division as they outlasted four nationally-ranked teams in the process. The victory also earned the Prospects the final spot in the National Youth Baseball Championships to be played Aug. 22-26 in Memphis, Tennessee.

The 12U team list had the likes of the South Florida Stealth, SY Titans, PTI Maniacs and Cave Run Muskies/Baseball Youth Elite, but the Ohio Prospects flew under the radar. They went 2-1 in pool play earning the No. 4 seed, and their only loss came against the No. 12-ranked Stealth.

In the semis, the Prospects and Stealth faced each other again, but the Prospects pulled off the upset, 4-2. That left just one team in their path for a trip to Memphis, and it was the No. 6-ranked Titans. Again, the Prospects pulled off a shocker winning 6-3 for the Elite Championships title and a spot in the NYBC.

The SY Titans will also be in Memphis for the NYBC as they were the champions of the NYBC Last Chance Play-In tournament in Memphis.
