 In Stories, Weekend Wrap-Up

Wilson DeMarini Elite WS
USSSA Space Coast Complex, Melbourne, FL

Texas Nitro – 9
Line Drive Elite – 7

Down 4-3 heading into the fourth inning, Texas Nitro exploded to score six runs over the next two innings en route to securing the 8u title. Jimmy Tipton III had a terrific day at the plate, going 3-4 with two RBIs while Francisco Macias added three hits of his own and scored three runs to aid the winning effort.

SBA Futures – 7
Chicago West Engelwood Tigers – 6

It was a five-run fourth that catapulted SBA Futures to the 13u title over the weekend. Details are a little foggy, but the game appears to have been shortened due to rain.

YETI Baseball Club Crawdads – 7
Dallas Tigers East – 1

Jacob Lemann, Blake Peterson and Aiden Bennett combined to limit Dallas Tigers East to one run on the day and help YETI Baseball Club Crawdads lift the 14u banner. The Crawdads jumped out to an early 3-0 lead and cruised home from there. Mayson Winters and Ben Merriman contributed two RBIs apiece.

** The 9-12u age groups are getting underway today, so keep an eye out for recaps in those age divisions next week!

Cooperstown Dreams Park Week 6
Cooperstown, NY

South Tampa Hooks – 14
Santa Clarita Clutch – 6

The Clutch exploded out of the gate, scoring four runs in the top of the first, but it was all Hooks from there, as the team from South Tampa countered like Bernard Hopkins with two runs in each of the first three innings followed by a decisive six-run fourth. The game also appeared to feature Joc Pederson and Vlad Guerrero Jr., as the Clutch clubbed four homers in the loss while the Hooks lifted off with a dizzying six moonshots. Yvan Douglas was responsible for two of the Hooks’ four-baggers, but it was Noah Sheffield who stole the show, going 3-3 with 3 HR and 4 RBIs. Such a fireworks display deserves some serious recognition, so congrats to Noah on being named the Baseball Youth Power Performer of the Week! Noah has been awarded one Power Point and is now in contention to become the Baseball Youth Power Player of the Year!

PG BCS National Championship

Gulf Coast Monarchs – 3
Elite Squad National – 2

Game of the Weekend alert! After seven innings of scoreless baseball, the Monarchs and Nationals did all their damage in extras, scoring one run apiece in the eighth before the Monarchs walked off in the ninth due to a heartbreakingly ill-timed balk with a man on third. The very coolly named Johnny King tossed a gem for the Monarchs, striking out six and allowing just three hits over 6.1 scoreless innings.
